Announcing: Graddle + Canvas LMS Integration
By Graddle Product Team
Today we're announcing general availability of Graddle's native Canvas LMS integration — the first of our direct LMS connections, with Moodle and Blackboard following in Q2.
For institutions running Canvas, setup is now a matter of minutes rather than months. Here's what's included in the initial release.
LTI 1.3 Launch
Graddle connects to Canvas via the IMS Global LTI 1.3 standard, which means it appears natively inside Canvas as an external tool. Students and staff access the marking interface directly from within an assignment or submission view — no separate login, no context switching. Single sign-on is handled automatically via the LTI launch flow, with institutional identity passed through the LMS.
Assignment Import
Assignments created in Canvas — including their rubrics, due dates, and submission type settings — can be imported into Graddle with a single click from the assignment settings page. Rubric criteria are parsed automatically and mapped to Graddle's marking interface. Manual re-entry of marking schemes is no longer required.
Automatic Grade Sync
When a marker approves a submission in Graddle, the grade and feedback are pushed back to Canvas via the LTI Assignments and Grades Services (AGS) API. Students see their mark and feedback appear in their Canvas grade book and notification feed without any manual export step. The sync is one-way and final-state only — interim working marks in Graddle are never visible to students until explicitly approved.
Roster Sync
The integration uses the Names and Role Provisioning Services (NRPS) specification to pull enrolled student lists from Canvas at assignment-open time. Markers see an up-to-date queue that includes late enrolments and handles withdrawals gracefully, without needing to maintain a separate import process.
Getting Started
Canvas integration is available on all Graddle plans. Institution administrators can configure the integration from the Graddle admin panel under Settings → LMS Connections. You'll need your Canvas institution URL and a Developer Key issued by your Canvas administrator — full setup instructions are available in our documentation.
If you're evaluating Graddle for your institution and want to see the Canvas integration in action, book a demo from the Graddle website and specify Canvas in the notes field. We'll tailor the session to your setup.
Moodle and Blackboard integrations are in closed beta now. If you'd like early access, contact us at integrations@graddle.app.
